How We Gave Pogo A Second Chance

Meredith Spurrier

This year, we’ve teamed up with a nonprofit partner that is close to all our hearts here at Spurrier Group. Thanks to American Humane Society, we are a proudly participating in the Second Chance® Grant program. It helps give animals the lifesaving medical care they need when the odds are stacked against them. From emergency surgeries to ongoing treatment and recovery support, the grant can bridge the gap between survival and a second chance at life.

Pogo’s Story

Pogo was found wandering alone, already gravely injured after being hit by a car. His paw was severely damaged and left untreated for so long that it began to rot. Then, in an unthinkable act of cruelty, someone took a hatchet to what remained.

By the time he was rescued, Pogo had lost his paw entirely.

But even after everything he endured, his spirit was unbroken.

Despite the pain, despite being left to survive on his own, Pogo greeted his rescuers with joy, eager for attention, hopping forward with trust and a will to keep going.

He needed more than emergency care. He needed a way to walk again.

The cost to give Pogo that chance—to fit him with a prosthetic and restore his mobility—quickly climbed, placing a heavy burden on the rescue fighting to save him.

With our support, American Humane Society awarded Pogo a Second Chance® Grant to help offset these costs, ensuring he could receive the prosthetic he needed to get back on all fours.

Where is Pogo Now?

Today, Pogo has that prosthetic. And with it, a second chance.

He’s learning to move in a whole new way, adjusting step by step, regaining his confidence and independence. The dog who once struggled to survive on three legs is now bounding forward toward a future filled with possibility.

His journey isn’t over yet.
